Lakeside Hotel & Spa Wedding

Victoria & Danny’s Lake District wedding was one of those days that just sticks with you. They chose to get married in the most low-key, intimate way—just the two of them, heading up to the Lake District and keeping everything completely about them. No big crowd, no fuss, just a quiet, meaningful ceremony in one of the most beautiful places in the UK. As a Lake District wedding photographer, these are the kind of days that really hit differently.

They exchanged their vows at the stunning Lakeside Hotel & Spa in Windermere, which is such a perfect spot for a relaxed, lakeside wedding. Tucked right on the edge of the water with incredible views all around, it’s ideal for couples planning a smaller, more personal celebration. The whole morning felt calm and easy, just them taking everything in without any distractions.

One of the things with a smaller wedding like this is sorting witnesses for the ceremony—and that’s where I came in. Not only was I there to photograph everything, but Victoria & Danny asked me to be one of their witnesses too, alongside a member of the hotel team. It’s honestly such a privilege being trusted with that role, and it made the whole experience feel even more personal.

After the “I do’s” and a quick glass of fizz, we headed out for some relaxed portraits around the grounds. The gardens at Lakeside Hotel & Spa are beautifully kept, and as we made our way down towards the lake, something completely unexpected happened. Out of nowhere, a guy came over to congratulate them and—without any hesitation—offered us the use of his boat for photos. No build-up, no catch… just pure generosity.

At that point, we had no idea what kind of boat he meant, so we followed him down to the jetty—and ended up stood in front of this incredible yacht. Proper “is this actually happening?” moment. Trying to play it cool while internally losing it, we headed on board, where he and his wife suggested a great spot with the mountains in the background.

It was already amazing, but I couldn’t resist pushing it a little further, so I asked if we could head right to the front of the boat—and that’s where things got even better. We spent about 20 minutes shooting up there, with the lake, the mountains, and the light all just coming together perfectly. One of those moments you couldn’t plan even if you tried.

Before we left, I grabbed their email so I could send over some of the photos as a thank you. The three of us just stood there afterwards slightly stunned, trying to process what had just happened. Victoria & Danny were wondering how the rest of the day could possibly top that, and I was thinking I might have just peaked as a wedding photographer.

We headed back to their suite afterwards to say our goodbyes, and honestly, it all got a bit emotional. It’s rare you spend such a short amount of time with people but come away feeling like you’ve shared something really special. There may have been a few tears.

Days like this are exactly why I love being a Lake District wedding photographer. Every wedding is different, but every now and then you get one that completely catches you off guard in the best possible way—and this was definitely one of them.
