Hidden River Barn Wedding Photographer
Tarah & Dan’s Hidden River Barn wedding up in Cumbria was one of those days where everything just clicked. The setting, the vibe, the people—it all came together in a way that felt effortless and full of life. As a Cumbria wedding photographer, you get to work in some incredible locations, but Hidden River Barn really is something else. It’s one of those venues that makes an impact the second you arrive.
Set in the middle of the Cumbrian countryside, Hidden River Barn is the kind of wedding venue that gives you space to properly breathe. You’ve got rolling greenery, a stream running through the grounds, and this amazing mix of rustic charm and industrial style all wrapped into one. The barn itself is huge, with steel beams, warm wood textures, and loads of natural light pouring in—basically everything you’d want for relaxed, natural wedding photography.
This was actually my first time photographing a wedding at Hidden River Barn, and safe to say, it did not disappoint. The moment you walk in, you’re hit with those incredible high ceilings and that open, airy feel. Whether it’s the upstairs ceremony space or the main reception area below, every part of the venue feels designed for both atmosphere and great photos. It’s one of the best rustic wedding venues in Cumbria if you’re after something that feels both stylish and laid-back.
The venue already looks amazing as it is, but Tarah & Dan added their own personality into it in such a cool, effortless way. Nothing over the top, just really thoughtful touches that reflected them. Their seating plan made from vinyl records was such a good nod to their love of music, and the tables were styled with wild, natural foliage that gave everything that slightly undone, organic feel. It all worked perfectly with the space—rustic but modern, relaxed but still full of detail.
One of the best things about a Hidden River Barn wedding is how much there is to do outside as well. Guests were free to wander the grounds, hang out by the stream, and just enjoy the setting. Tarah & Dan had even set up mini crazy golf, which went down an absolute treat and kept everyone entertained throughout the day. It had that proper summer wedding energy—drinks flowing, people laughing, and everything feeling easy and unforced.
From a photography point of view, this is exactly the kind of wedding I love. Nothing too structured, no pressure—just letting the day unfold naturally and capturing it as it happens. As a documentary-style wedding photographer in Cumbria and the Lake District, those real, candid moments are always the ones that matter most. The laughs between friends, the quiet moments, the chaos of the dance floor later on—it’s all part of the story.
We took a bit of time for couple portraits as well, just a relaxed wander around the grounds, making the most of the scenery. No big production, just Tarah & Dan being themselves, which always makes for the best photos. The light started to soften as the day went on, which gave everything that extra bit of magic without needing to force anything.
Then as the sun dipped and the evening rolled in, things shifted into full party mode. The Wayfarers Folk Band got things going, and from that point on, the dance floor didn’t stand a chance. Tarah & Dan kicked things off, and within minutes, everyone was up, dancing, and fully in it. It was loud, it was fun, and it had that proper festival-style energy that suits a barn wedding like this so well.
Hidden River Barn is easily one of the standout wedding venues in Cumbria for couples looking for a relaxed, countryside wedding with loads of character. It gives you the freedom to do things your way, with space to create a day that feels completely your own.
Tarah & Dan’s wedding was the perfect example of that—laid-back, full of personality, and just a really good time from start to finish. As a Cumbria wedding photographer, it’s definitely one that sticks with you
